We would like EVERY parent and teacher to be a regular part of the PTFA. So from
now on, we are going to start emailing EVERYONE copies of our minutes as well as
updates so that you can ALL be a part of what the PTFA can achieve.

IF YOU ARE CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT THE PTFA ACTUALLY DOES,
PLEASE READ ON TO FIND OUT WHAT AN ESSENTIAL ROLE IT PLAYS IN
ENHANCING OUR SCHOOL…

THE PTFA EXISTS WITH TWO BASIC FUNCTIONS:

1) To raise essential additional money for the school.

As a result of government cutbacks, the school budget regrettably only covers basic
staffing costs.

An example of this is that the school no longer has any maintenance/ fabric budget
as this has been replaced by a ‘pupil premium’ budget, allocated on the basis of
free school meals. As no children at Leighterton receive free school meals, the
school is simply not eligible for this money resulting in a budget reduction of
thousands of pounds.

By raising some extra money, the PTFA is able to provide the school with some
much needed cash that put simply cannot otherwise be found. We use this to buy
the school required equipment and we also aim to provide our children with
additional educational treats.

This year, we are currently fundraising to cover

(i) Friday afternoon KS2 sports coaching by Miles from Cheltenham Football
Club who is a fantastic male role model for all the children in an otherwise fairly
female dominated environment!
(ii) the Foundation stage outside play area, now a curriculum requirement.
(iii) Blinds for classes 2,3 & 4 so that the children can see the white boards
when the sun is shining.
(iv) Half the cost of the visiting Christmas pantomime
(v) Further ideas and requests TBA at the next meeting….
Please do come along and let us know how you would like to enhance the
school for our children.

2) To play an important part in helping to build a school community

As Leighterton is so rural and draws its children from a number of different villages,
it can be hard to develop a school community, especially with a lot of parents
working or using the Didmarton bus and not regularly coming into the school
playground.

By putting on events that everyone related to the school can join in with and enjoy,
we aim to encourage friendships amongst parents and show our children that we
are supporting them at school. We want them to be proud of their school and enjoy
it both in and out of their classrooms.
