NEWSLETTER 21

February 10th,  2012

Dear Parents

We hope that you are all able to have a good half term break and that the weather is kind to us.
We have been lucky thus far with the wintry weather.  We are aware that the weather forecast for tomorrow is rather dubious. So with that in mind,  We are sending out the newsletter  today rather than tomorrow. Hopefully Spring will be here soon!

NEWSFLASH  - HALF TERM Sports Course - CANCELLED

Unfortunately due to the small number of children who have signed up for the half term course, Cheltenham Town Football Club have had to cancel this event.
Parents whose children were signed up for the course will be told individually.

KNEX CHALLENGE

This annual school event took place on Monday this week. Simon Kettle from Stemworks came out with lots of KNEX construction kits so that pupils in Year 5 and 6 could all take part in the challenge. Class 4 spent all morning in the hall working on the challenge. Children worked in pairs. The brief was to design and make a cart suitable for a variety of things including people and equipment which could be carried from the Olympic village to the Olympic stadium. There were a number of criteria that had to be met,  e.g there had to be more than two wheels on their vehicle. They all worked very hard on the task. The pair who were finally judged to be the winners were Will Oliver and  Logan Smith. They will go through to represent our school at the County Final later in the year.

NOT GOT ENOUGH SCHOOL UNIFORM? From Mrs Weyman

You have a choice of how to get hold of school uniform for your child:-

Second Hand Uniform

We welcome donations of any outgrown uniform still in good condition to sell to other parents.  Seema Bowers (son in Class 2 and daughter in Class 1) looks after the Key Stage 1 sizes and Jane Weyman (daughter in Class 4) the Key Stage 2 sizes.  So catch us in the playground or call us (our contact details are held in the office) to see what we have in stock.  All of the money we raise (about £300 last academic year) goes to the PTFA and so your child will directly benefit.

New Uniform

We recently changed to a different supplier called “Simply Schoolwear” for new uniform with various benefits:-

- choice of ways to buy – web, phone or post
- cheaper for some items such as polo shirts, sweatshirts and cardigans
- sell more items such as PE kit, grey trousers & skirts, summer dresses & even socks
- items are delivered direct to your home
- the price includes name tagging so no more lost jumpers etc!

All the prices on the website include a donation of 5% to the school so again, your child will benefit.

You cannot return items which have been name tagged so if you are unsure of the size, ask Jane Weyman (contact details in the office) & you can try on the size samples at school before ordering.

So please remember to use their service for all new items including grey trousers, skirts, pinafores and PE stuff etc – why boost the profits of Tesco or M & S etc when the school can make good use of the money!

We will be setting up the second hand uniform at the Pancake Café on Tues 21st February from 2.30 to just after 4pm in the hall.  So please bring us any donations and come and see what we have in stock.  We will also be selling some new items left from the previous supplier at reduced prices - mainly cardigans.

PANCAKE CAFÉ

Don’t forget that we will be holding our annual Pancake Café on Shrove Tuesday, February 21st, at the end of the school day at 3pm.
Children are invited to come with their parents to the hall, where we will be serving pancakes,  with a variety of toppings for 50p each, with unlimited squash. If your child is on the school bus but would still like to have a pancake the café will be open to bus children or anyone who cannot make the café at 3pm. If your child goes on the bus and would like a pancake please send money in a labelled envelope.
The School’s Out Club will be going in to have pancakes at 3.30pm, so once again if your children want to take part please send in some money.
The café will remain open until after clubs finish at 4pm.
